Understanding Role Tags in GoShipment

Modified on Fri, 8 Aug at 6:41 PM

What are Role Tags?

Role Tags are identifiers assigned to individual users and vendor team members within the GoShipment platform. These tags play a crucial role in workflow automation by helping the platform determine which specific user is responsible for completing a given step in the shipment process.

This is especially useful when only certain team members (rather than the entire team) are assigned to perform particular tasks in the workflow.

Where to View/Assign or Edit Role Tags

To view or edit the role tag for a client or vendor team member, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > My Team Members

  1. Click on Edit next to the team member’s name.

  2. Locate the Role Tag field and update it as needed

Default Role Tags

By default, GoShipment assigns the following role tags:

  • Client Team Members → Logistics

  • Vendor Team Members → Admin

These defaults are applied to simplify step-level responsibility mapping during the initial onboarding process. However, these role tags can be easily modified at any time based on changes in team structure, roles, or process requirements.

Why Role Tags Matter

Assigning role tags allows GoShipment to:

  • Route tasks correctly to the responsible individuals.

  • Avoid confusion by ensuring only relevant users are notified for action

  • Streamline collaboration between client and vendor teams

This ensures a smooth handoff from one stakeholder to another during each step of the shipment workflow.
